In the “worth mentioning” category…
…are my recent visits to the blog titled “A Minor Friar” scripted by Franciscan Brother Charles.
In the post “Getting There” Brother Charles touches on one of my favorite topics, the theology of St. Bonaventure. In his post, he brings to our attention one of Pope Benedict’s early publications, The Theology of History in St. Bonaventure. I have added the title to my expanding “must read” list of books. See J. Ratzinger, The Theology of History in St. Bonaventure.
In Brother Charles’ post “Note to a Baby Priest” he offers advice to a newly ordained priest.
In a posted comment, I suggested the most important factor for success as a priest must be continued spiritual formation. In response, Brother Charles captured my sentiments better than I could express them with the words of Dom Chautard:
If the priest is a saint (the saying goes), the people will be fervent; if the priest is fervent, the people will be pious; if the priest is pious, the people will at least be decent. But if the priest is only decent, the people will be godless. The spiritual generation is always one degree less intense in its life than those who beget it in Christ.
For a charming look at the life of a contemporary Franciscan friar visit “A Minor Friar.” Tell the friar I sent you.
