The Coming Train Wreck

Father Robert Barron of Word on Fire fame takes up the topic I explored in my last post in response to a Vortex segment by Michael Voris — the impending collapse of western civilization.

In his usual inviting style Fr. Barron reviews The Rage Against God by Peter Hitchens. The book explores the attack on Christianity that took place in the former Soviet Union, an assault that resulted in overall cultural decline. In the book Hitchens compares those events with the current agenda promoted by atheists, including his brother Christopher Hitchens.

As we study the history of attacks on Christianity and try to understand the current hostility toward faith, we must ask what are the important lessons we should grasp as we plan for the future? Might it still be possible to prevent impending social collapse? Or must we look farther into the future and plan for a rebuilding phase, as Voris suggests?

In either case, it appears certain that we must turn in earnest to the study of conflict resolution in order to gain skills that will allow us to bring order to a culture ripped apart by planned disorder.
